Initiating Services

Booking an Appointment

At Yellow Ribbon Counseling, we initiate services by initial phone consultation.   Once the initial consultation is complete, we will pair you with a therapist who suits your needs.   Insurance information will be obtained during the initial consultation to verify mental health coverage.   Not all insurance plans will cover mental health services.  If you are requesting online therapy services, we must verify if your plan covers the use of telehealth services.


If a minor child is being enrolled in services, our office must receive any legal custody paperwork in relation to that child before services can be provided as required by our state licensing boards.


Our office staff does not provide emotional support animal letters, we do not offer formal assessments and testing, and we also do accept active custody cases.  Our staff cannot provide recommendations on custody.

What to expect on my first visit?

Face to Face

Before your first appointment, our offices will email you intake paperwork to be completed digitally.   You will be given access to your secure client portal, which will allow you to securely message your clinician, see upcoming appointments, and manage your billing.  Once completed, you will receive either a text or email appointment reminder for the initial session with the date and time.  If your temperature is 100 degrees or higher, we will need to reschedule the appointment. If you are experiencing symptoms of a cold, flu, or COVID 19, we will require you to move your appointment virtually or reschedule.


All documents and links to the initial appointment will be sent to the email provided for telehealth appointments.     Face masks are required for all in-person appointments.  If you cannot wear a mask, we offer virtual appointments to meet your needs.

Insurance and Fees FAQs

What insurance do you accept?

Our office accepts most major insurance plans.   We will locate a clinician who accepts your insurance plan.  Not all clinicians are able to accept insurance due to having a provisional license in the state of TX. 


Insurances accepted are TRICARE, Cigna, BCBS TX, United, Aetna,  Ambetter, Scott and White (commercial only), ChampVA, and Superior Medicaid. 

What if I have more than one coverage?

We will need to know all current mental health coverage providers.  This may help with cost-share such as co-pays.

What if I don't have coverage or you don't accept my insurance?

We offer private pay options for insurances not covered.   We have LPC Associates and LMFT Associates who provide reduced rate sessions at $60 per session for individuals and $70 per session for couples/families.  We also have  Graduate Student Interns accepting clients for $25 per session. If you have a Medicaid plan, we will provide you with a list of providers who accept your Medicaid version.

How can I make payments toward my balance?

We accept cash, checks, and use STRIPE  for all credit card transactions.    

How long will my session be?

Session times vary in length of time.   Most sessions will run from 45 to 60 minutes.   Some specialized treatments may require less or more time such as Play Therapy or EMDR Therapy.  The frequency and length of time will be determined in your initial intake appointment with your clinician.    The initial intake is schedule for 60-90 minutes.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Our office requests 24-hour notice to cancel your appointment.  Appointments canceled under 24 hours will be billed a $50 late cancel/no-show fee.
